At last after weeks of waiting and lots of appearances and interviews, the Waterford Rose, Kirsten Mate Maher has been crowned Rose of Tralee winner 2018.
She becomes the first African-Irish Rose but not the first of mixed race.

Her father, Kwalo is from Zambia and her mother Jacinta is from Waterford.
Kirsten is 21 years old and had planned on going to Waterford Institute of Technology to study Multimedia and Application Development but that may have to be put on hold for a year or so as she will have a busy year ahead fulfilling all her engagements as this year’s Rose.
She sings with the Island of Ireland Peace Choir and she also plays hockey with the Waterford Ladies hockey team.
She is also quite a good singer which she showed during this performance:
