The Rose of Tralee International Festival is well known worldwide. It started in 1959 and has grown into an international event. Nowadays young women from Irish communities all over the world compete to become the Rose of Tralee. The main event which is held in “The Dome” (a marquee set up specially for the event) is the contes which is held over two nights. It is more than a beauty contest. The ladies personalities and performances are as important as appearance. The show is broadcast on RTE television and it has been one of the most popular TV shows for many years.
For the week of the festival the town is full of street theatre, music, street markets, a funfair, a circus, parades, fireworks, fashion events, a 10k road race, a 50k cycle and lots more.
This year, all street events are free!
This is a festival which has something for visitors of all ages.

The Offaly Rose Jennifer Byrne was selected as the 59th Rose of Tralee last night.
Jennifer works as a junior doctor in the Accident and Emergency department of University Hospital Galway.
This is the first time Offaly wone The Rose of Tralee.
