Chamber Music on Valentia 2022
Chamber Music on Valentia 2022 offers a richly diverse programme that has something for everyone with music composed by Ireland’s Joan Trimble to Ugandan composer Justinian Tamusuza. Ernest Moeran to Gavin Bryars, Carolan to Schumann, Chamber Music on Valentia presents 5 days of exciting concerts in Valentia’s wonderful venues with an eclectic line-up of guest artists from Iceland, USA, Italy, UK, Germany and Ireland. The programme features the world premiere of a new suite of pieces by Irish composers (including Linda Buckley, Shaun Davey and Neil Martin) for the unique combination of uilleann pipes and piano trio, ‘They Danced When the Musicians Played’ where Fidelio Trio are joined by Cillian Vallely ofLúnasa. We present our recent Carolan 350th celebration with flute player Sarah Allen of Flook joining harpsichord and Festival musicians complemented by recitations of Carolan’s verse read by Irish conductor and Kerry resident Robert Houlihan. ‘Bach to Beatles’ juxtaposes John Tilbury’s tantalising Beatles songs with Dmitri Sitkovetsky’s string trio arrangement of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Our regular concert and reception at the stunning location of Glanleam House features Moeran’s Oboe Quartet, important repertoire only recently making waves on the concert stage by American composer Florence Price and Schumann’s scintillating Piano Quartet. Chamber Choir Ireland bring ‘The Birds and the Bees Quartet’ to Chapeltown and the grand finale concert is a two-piano gala in Knightstown including aptly Trimble’s Puck Fair and Rachmaninoff‘s majestic Symphonic Dances. Throughout the Festival other highlights and participation opportunities include our popular Family Concert, Gavin Bryars’ Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, a specially commissioned Soundtrail around Valentia in association with The Lighthouse Project, masterclasses, opportunities to perform with Festival Artists, a singing workshop with Chamber Choir Ireland and the now much loved ‘Musical Map’ on Saturday 20th including films and demonstrations.
