Knightstown Valentia Island
The 8th edition of Chamber Music on Valentia, is reshaped this year as a blend of our specially created and recorded concerts by renowned Irish and international musicians, with events Online and On Valentia. Programmed by Artistic Director, concert pianist Mary Dullea, Chamber Music on Valentia 2021 continues its mission to deliver performances, installations, outreach and engagement events, and celebrate Irish composers for national and international audiences.
Throughout this year’s Festival we are presenting an eclectic range of performances. The on-line concerts begin with the opening concert 12TH AUGUST by the exceptional Turkish pianist Gülsin Onay in a programme of Chopin, Clara Schumann and Robert Schumann. 13TH AUGUST sees two concerts of music mainly by Irish composers, filmed on Valentia. Featuring soprano Daire Halpin, violinists Darragh Morgan and Michelle Fleming, violist Eoin Schmidt-Martin, cellist Adrian Mantu and pianist Mary Dullea, the first programme focuses on the music of Charles Villiers Stanford, Ernest J. Moeran (the patron composer of the festival) and Jonathan Nangle, this year’s featured composer. The late-night concert includes premieres by Raymond Deane, Seán Ó Dálaigh, Errollyn Wallen and music by Jonathan Nangle and Lili Boulanger.
This year’s festival is a mix of online recorded performances and live music on Valentia Island.
