Based on one of the earliest known poems, The Song of Amergin, this festival is a celebration of contemporary Irish poetry.
Legend has it that Amergin first came ashore in Ballinskelligs Bay where Waterville now stands and spoke the words of the now famous first Irish poem.
Amergin Solstice Poetry Festival Waterville 2019: Éigse na Gréine is the second year of this festival and it will run over the June Solstice weekend.
It ill include poetry readings, workshops and music at various locations around Waterville.
Professor John Careyof UCC, Galician poet Martín Veiga, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Russian poet Andrey Mashinyan.
Steve Cooney is the musician in residence.
