Tralee Gears Up for Hugh O’Flaherty Half Marathon 2026
Community Spirit and Sporting Passion Set to Unite on October 25
Tralee is preparing for one of its most anticipated sporting events as the Hugh O’Flaherty Half Marathon returns on 25 October 2026, promising a day of energy, inspiration, and community celebration.
Organisers have officially launched this year’s campaign with a striking promotional poster carrying the slogan: “Half Marathon, Full
Heart!” — a message designed to capture both the challenge of the race and the spirit behind it.
The event, which has reportedly sold out for the past three consecutive years, is expected to attract runners, walkers, supporters, and families from across Ireland and beyond. The marathon honours the legacy of Hugh O’Flaherty, the celebrated Kerryman known internationally for his courage and humanitarian efforts during World
War II.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Tralee, the race promises much more than athletic competition. Organisers are highlighting the festival-like atmosphere surrounding the event, describing it as “fun for all ages” with enthusiastic crowds, local entertainment, and strong community involvement expected throughout the day.
“This isn’t just about running,” one organiser said. “It’s about bringing people together, celebrating resilience, and creating unforgettable memories in the heart of Kerry.”
The promotional campaign encourages participants to secure their places early, warning that demand is expected to be high once again.
Supporters are also being urged to come along and cheer on competitors, with organisers aiming to create what they call an “electric atmosphere” throughout the town.
Local businesses are also expected to benefit from the influx of visitors, with hotels, cafés, and restaurants likely to see increased activity over the marathon weekend. Community groups and volunteers are already beginning preparations to welcome participants and spectators to Tralee.
“Don’t sit this one out — be part of something special.”
